Good morning Saginaw County! Please respect our flaggers’ traffic control directions when we are working within a particular mile or half-mile. If your residence is within the closed area, you will be allowed to go through, but other traffic will be asked to go around. This process will help us to complete each mile much more efficiently and minimize any unfortunate mishaps. In 2019, there were nearly 6,000 work zone crashes in Michigan which resulted in almost 1,500 injuries and 17 deaths. Please try to remember that the work zone is the construction worker’s office. It is not their intent to halt anyone from getting to their destination or to lessen one’s commute; they want to do it in a safe manner. Slow down when you see those workers ahead. They have families they want to go home to.Projects for 01.25.2021, Monday –Ditch Cleanout• Frandsche between Johnstone and Havana (Chesaning Twp)• Hackett Rd between Freeland Pierce (Tittabawassee Twp)Equipment Maintenance• Servicing and repairsPatrol Patching• CountywideSign Shop• Countywide Maintenance• Sign fabricationSnow and Ice Removal• Prepping trucks for upcoming weather eventTree Removal Project• Iva Rd between McKay and Grabowski (Fremont Twp)• Schust Rd between Mackinaw and Lauer (Saginaw Twp)• Dorwood between Townline and Busch (Taymouth Twp)Tree Trimming or Low Hanging Limb Removal Project• Birch Run TwpDrive safe, be safe, and stay safe!#SaginawCountyRoadCommission #SCRC #WorkZoneSafety #SlowDown #January2021 #Winter

Good morning and Happy Inauguration Day!DID YOU KNOW?– The presidential oath, which consists of 35 words, is mandated by the Constitution.– Inauguration Day was first conducted on April 30, 1789. From 1793 to 1933 it was held on March 4 and following the ratification of the 12th Amendment to the Constitution in 1933 it was moved to January 20th.– Since 1789, the oath has been administered at 58 public inaugurations by 15 chief justices, 1 associate justice, and a New York state judge. – Lyndon B Johnson was the first and only president to take the oath of office on an airplane and was the first time it was done by a female (Judge Sarah T Hughes). – George Washington delivered the shortest inaugural address (135 words) and William Henry Harrison gave the longest (8,400 words).– Thomas Jefferson was the president to inaugurated at the Capitol.– John F Kennedy was the first to add a poet to the inaugural event.– The 1865 inauguration was the first time African Americans participated in the inaugural parade. And 1917 women took part in the parade for the first time.– President Carter was the first to walk the more than mile route to the White House after the inauguration.– In 1809 President Madison started the tradition of the inaugural ball.Projects for 01.20.2021, Wednesday –Addressing Icy Roads • CountywideBrush Cutting• Carrollton Twp• Taymouth TwpDitch Cleanout• Frandsche between Johnstone and Havana (Chesaning Twp)• Hackett Rd between Freeland Pierce (Tittabawassee Twp)Equipment Maintenance• Servicing and repairsPatrol Patching• CountywideSign Shop• Countywide Maintenance• Sign fabricationDrive safe, be safe, and stay safe Saginaw County!#SaginawCountyRoadCommission #SCRC #WorkZoneSafety #slowdown #january2021 #winter

Good morning Saginaw County! Most winter driving crashes are caused by drivers going too fast for the roadway conditions. Follow these tips to stay safe on winter roads:– It can take up to ten times longer to stop your vehicle on snowy and/or icy roads. Slow down and allow more room between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. This gives you more time to react and brake (reducing your crash risk).– Put your turn signal on sooner than you would in warm weather months. Remember, it takes longer for the cars behind you to react and stop too.– Avoid distractions now more than ever. Taking your eyes off the road for even a few seconds robs you of your precious reaction time. Put your phone away and don’t try to multitask (eating, putting makeup on, etc.)– Watch for black ice: a very thin and nearly invisible layer of ice that makes the road look wet. Stay alert for black ice on bridges, ramps, and overpasses, after sudden drops in temperature, and in shaded areas.– Avoid a ticket. Michigan laws required drivers to move at a speed that is “reasonable and proper” for the road conditions. Even if you are driving at or below the speed limit, you could get a speeding ticket if the road conditions make that speed unreasonable for safe driving.Projects for 01.19.2021, Tuesday –Addressing Icy Roads (day crew started at 5:00 a.m.)• CountywideDrive safe, be safe, and stay safe! #SaginawCountyRoadCommission #SCRC #WorkZoneSafety #SlowDown #January2021 #Winter
